TV star Neil Morrissey has debts of £2.5 million, according to a national newspaper.

The News of the World reports that the Waterloo Road actor has racked up losses after a real estate investment collapsed.

However, he is refusing to contact bankruptcy solicitors, saying instead he will pay his creditors in full.

He told the newspaper: "No one is untouchable. This can happen to anyone. You can be doing very well one day, and on the streets the next. These things creep up on you. All of a sudden it manifests itself."

Mr Morrissey added that the economic downturn has not helped, stating that the attitude of some banks has also been a problem, bankruptcy solicitors may be interested to hear.

Recently, TV chef Gordon Ramsay told Fox News that he has faced bankruptcy during the credit crunch, describing it as his "personal nightmare". ADNFCR-2391-ID-19315448-ADNFCR
