Accountant jailed for fraud crimes
Published on 8 Sep 2009 under category: legal
An accountant has been jailed for eight years in relation to fraud crimes.
John Warman was found guilty of conspiring to commit tax fraud worth £2.5 million.
This relates to manipulating tax returns, which he carried out with client Simon Fields.
Mr Warman was found guilty of 29 charges relating to fraud crimes, while Mr Fields was found guilty of one charge of fraud and one count of conspiracy to do so, although the latter will not be sentenced until November.
Derby Crown Court heard that the pair understated the value of Mr Fields' property portfolio, which he managed for his father who was cleared of any involvement.
The men were also said to have overstated the amount that was paid on the real estate from interest on buy-to-let loans.
Earlier this week, Ian Clement, a former deputy to London mayor Boris Johnson, was charged with five offences related to credit card fraud crimes.
