Wrongful dismissal cases to come from bullying?

Published on 22 Jul 2010 under category: legal

Just over a fifth of employees feel they are "bullied" at work by their employer, according to a new survey.

This could lead to more wrongful dismissal cases, as workers feel that they are unfairly dismissed.

The survey by HR consultancy firm Reabur also found that 28 per cent felt a peer was picking them at work.

Despite the widespread feeling of being ostracised, less than one in ten (eight per cent) were willing to disclose or report incidents to HR staff.

The findings show that almost a third of women (31 per cent) claim to have been victimised, while only 17 per cent of men admitted to the same feelings.

However, only 14 per cent of "victims" reported that they would feel intimidated by a female colleague, while almost a fifth (19 per cent) of male respondents said they would feel bullied by another man.

Employers may have to rethink their approach in the workplace if they are to prevent cases of employment disputes.
