Property journalists in the UK could be subject to charges of professional negligence from investors after recent reports of similar action in Ireland.
The Independent reports that investors in Ireland have consulted solicitors on whether they can file cases against journalists who have "misled" them about possible returns on new developments.
Though property journalism has been driven by advertising, more investors could blame the media for business failures.
Speaking to the paper, property journalist Graham Norwood said: "One top agent offered me cash to write a nice piece about a property.
"But part of the problem with international property is that the only way we can see a development is if the trip is paid for.
"Newspapers can't afford to send us, and we can't afford to send ourselves.
Investors who have lost out during the global property crash or found that developers have defaulted on deals could turn to the courts for compensation.
