Former coalminers in the north-west of England could be getting ready to take legal action over claims they were unfairly compensated.
Up to eight firms in the region face being taken to court over suggestions that they did not pay out adequate compensation, the Lawyer reported.
"The original compensation payments were made to miners suffering from vibration white finger under the Coal Health Compensation Scheme," the legal trade journal revealed.
It added: "In 2008, it emerged that firms acting on behalf of miners had brought in more than £700 million in fees."
The latest professional negligence case is being heard at Leeds County Court.
Firms that have been included in the claims, which are thought to be worth some £450,000 in total, are Saffmans, Beresford and Raleys.
It is believed that if this round of claims comes to a successful end, more such cases will be filed by former coalminers.
