A taxi driver has won a multimillion compensation claim against an Essex hospital after he suffered brain damage due to negligent treatment for a neck stab wound.
Leslie Dye was admitted to Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow in 2003, following an attack by a customer.
According to the court findings, a scan of his brain was not read properly, leading to Mr Dye having a permanently disabling heart attack.
Commenting on the case, Mr Justice Burnett said: "It is obvious that the consequences of the stabbing and the failures in medical care which followed had an absolutely devastating effect upon his life and on the lives of all those close to him."
Mr Dye is now cared for at the Jacobs Neuro Centre in Hertfordshire.
The hospital is to pay him £850,000, as well as provide index-linked periodic payments to cover his ongoing care.
A spokesman for the hospital said: "Since the incident, the Trust has worked hard to ensure the quality of its healthcare services improves and that nothing similar happens again."
