Medical negligence doctor struck off register

Published on 22 Jun 2010 under category: legal

A doctor accused and found guilty of medical negligence was struck off the register last week.

Daniel Ubani, a German doctor, was accused of killing one of his patients with an injection of painkillers and found guilty of wrongfully treating two other patients.

The GP will no longer be able to work in the UK.

His work was well below the normal standards expected of a trained doctor, the General Medical Council concluded on his case.

The incidents occurred during an out-of-hours shift, prompting health secretary Andrew Lansley to blame the current system of work in hospitals.

He also said that he would stop foreign doctors working in the UK if their language skills are not sufficient.

A recent independent report on the impact of the working time directive called on the government to reform the system so that junior doctors did not do out-of-hours work.

Inexperienced doctors can give rise to claims of professional and medical negligence.
