Flexible working could lessen employment disputes?

Published on 9 Aug 2010 under category: legal

Flexible working terms could be one way to reduce disputes in the workplace, according to one firm.
A report published this week by Orange found that more than half (53 per cent) of new graduates expect flexible working conditions.
This is more important than having good salary, which 51 per cent rated as important.
The report backs up a separate study by PricewaterhouseCoopers in May that found that employees valued flexible working above perks.
Mark Taylor, of Orange, said: "Setting up an employee to work from home needn't involve significant investment, just the willingness to give them the tools they need to get the job done.
"By understanding the benefits that flexible working can have on a business, bosses can be better prepared to embrace the practice."
He added that employers needed to shift their management styles in order to manage workers who they cannot observe in the office.
