Employment disputes related to pay inequalities could become less common in the workplace, with the creation of quotas.
The European Commission announced last week that it is considering making quotas to reduce gender inequalities at the top of companies.
Currently, only one in ten women working in business sit on decision-making bodies in top firms.
In addition, the legislation would also be backed up in October by new legal provisions enforcing pay transparency in salaries.
However, some city figures do not believe that quotas are the way forward.
Commenting on the consultation, the spokesperson for City Women's Network Kate Grussing said: "Our members are divided on quotas, and what we need to focus on is greater transparency of how the board appointments are made so that women are on the shortlist where they deserve to be."
"All professional women will welcome greater transparency, and the more that compensation can be available in a standard format - across all levels and sectors - that can only be a good thing," she added.
