Employment disputes could increase with flexible working, according to an industry body.
The Confederation of British Industry last week (21st June) announced new recommendations to increase flexibility in the labour market.
These included more flexible working, cutting burdens on employers that prevent them hiring and changing industrial legislation.
However, employment disputes could increase as more people want flexibility around retirement.
One of the report's key measures included "making the right to request flexible retirement more effective", rather than going for an outright abolition of the default retirement age.
According to its report, getting rid of the retirement age altogether could result in more problems in the workplace.
In the Mail on Sunday yesterday (June 27th), columnist Vince Cable said that longer lives and extended periods of employment raised several issues for the future.
He wrote: "How do employers stop bad workers using laws against age discrimination as a means of collecting a pay packet indefinitely by threatening an employment tribunal if bosses force them to leave?"
