Employment disputes could increase when huge national spending cuts in this Budget fall into place.
Up to 1.3 million jobs could be slashed under chancellor George Osborne's proposed cuts, the Guardian newspaper has reported.
It has seen what it describes as estimates of job losses across the public and private sectors.
Around 600,000 jobs are expected to go from the public sector and around 700,000 from the private sector by 2015.
Job slashing in the workplace could result in more employment disputes and compensation claims.
Speaking to the newspaper, the Chartered Institute for Personnel and Development's chairman John Philpott said: "There is not a hope in hell's chance of this happening [the creation of 2.5m new jobs].
"There would have to be extraordinarily strong private sector employment growth in a … much less conducive economic environment than it was during the boom."
According to the paper, the government expects 2.5 million jobs in the private sector to be created over the next five years to make up for the impact of huge spending cuts.
