Employers are cracking down on timekeeping, according to a new report.
This could lead to more employment disputes.
A report last week from Career Builder found that over a third (39 per cent) of bosses have been paying more attention to employees' time-keeping since the recession.
More than one in ten (15 per cent) would fire a worker for being late two or three times.
A more tolerant 12 per cent would excuse an employee's poor punctuality four or five times before terminating their contract.
In a separate study from the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, also published last week, it was found that almost of one in four people in the UK do not take lunch breaks because of their workload.
If employers fail to be lenient about time-keeping, employers could make wrongful dismissal claims based on their workload.
On the findings, legal expert James Carmody commented that bosses had to be consistent about time-keeping and be clear about workplace policies on the issue.
