Employment disputes to arise in the financial services industries?

Published on 1 Jul 2010 under category: legal

More women could enter into employment disputes in the financial services industry, unless there is more recruitment of women in higher positions.

The Confederation of British Industry (CBI) and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) have released a report showing that more firms in the sector are expecting to start recruiting again.

However, women in the industry may be in a worse position than before the recession.

It is thought that firms spent less time prioritising the recruitment of women into higher positions during the downturn.

Commenting on the CBI/ PwC report, president of the City Women's Network India Gary-Martin said: "Initiatives to increase the number of women on boards are less attractive to companies whilst fighting through in a recession.

"The immediacy of commercial issues is often cited as the reasons for reduced focus."
Employment disputes could arise because of the lack of flexible working practices in some companies.

Citrix found in a separate survey that UK businesses tend to be faster in adopting remote working practices than their European counterparts, but less than half of firms (42 per cent) have adopted mobile working practices in the past five years.
