Employment disputes to arise in childcare services

Published on 13 Jul 2010 under category: legal

The knock-on impact of government spending cuts in the public sector could mean that more employment rise among childcare providers.

A recent report from the Family and Parenting Institute (FPI) found that more families were experiencing difficulties paying for child care services.

The UK received a 'C minus' grade for its family friendly policies, which were seen to be poor.

This could result in more nurseries closing down as children are withdrawn from them.

Employers could find themselves embroiled in more workplace disputes with disgruntled workers.

Commenting on the findings of the report, Tim Nichols of the Child Poverty Action Group said: "You could see some childcare providers finding that with so much business taken away from them, they can no longer afford to operate."

He added that the situation was "very worrying" as huge public sector spending cuts were likely to result in redundancies in both public and private sectors.
