Employment disputes in the classroom may be rare, because there is only a small minority of teachers that can be considered "absolutely incompetent".
This is according to the Institute of Education (IOE), following an expose by the television documentary Panorama of poor teaching in the UK.
However, the Institute of Education claims that only 18 teachers have been banned over the past four decades, despite the programme's claims that are 17,000 inadequate teachers in British schools.
Commenting on the claims by the documentary makers, the deputy director of the IoE Dylan William said: "There are probably a very small number of teachers who are so bad and they can't improve; they should leave the profession.
"Most teachers, even those at the bottom end of the performance range, can actually get better.
"What's really important is not that we get rid of those teachers, the important thing is that we make them better. We haven't yet found a good system for making teachers better. "
This could mean that more employment disputes could arise involving teachers, as parents call for more accountability from schools.
