Clinical negligence claims are continuing to rise as more people seek compensation for beauty treatments that have gone wrong.
The Independent Healthcare Advisory Services (IHAS) launched a register earlier this year, to encourage trained and qualified practitioners to become listed.
However, the Guardian paper has reported an increase in the number of professional negligence claims against private surgeons.
Some of the cases that have come up include bad Botox injections and dangerous, scarring laser treatment.
One solicitor said: "People usually find their injuries quite distressing because it involves their appearance, or they can feel embarrassed.
"The psychological effects of looking strange, misshapen or unsightly can be just as bad as the physical harm involved."
The IHAS is looking to improve health and safety, ensure face-to-face consultations, make sure that written consent is gained for each operation.
In addition, patients will have to have some evidence that treatment providers have received "appropriate training".
