Union leaders and management at BAA are meeting to discuss how a potential strike later this month can be averted.
Representatives from both sides will debate on the key issues of the dispute under the wing of conciliation service Acas.
Members of the Unite union employed at BAA voted last week to take industrial action over a pay row.
The strike could result in the closure of six UK airports operated by the company, including Heathrow, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Stansted.
"We're trying to do everything we possibly can to avert [disruption to passengers] but the company's got a major role to play in the resolution of this dispute," Brian Boyd of Unite told the BBC.
"It has to give us something better than what we've had up to now and the company knows that."
The union is taking action against the airport operator after an offer of a one per cent pay rise was thrown out.
BAA said that it hopes the two parties can "quickly conclude an agreement".
