Discussions to call off a strike by BAA staff have been successful.
Members of the Unite union met with management from the airport operator yesterday (Monday, August 16th).
The employment dispute arose last week after staff rejected a one per cent pay rise on offer from BAA.
Following a ballot, a strike was called for later this month. If the industrial action had gone ahead, it could have seen the closure of six UK airports including Heathrow, Southampton and Edinburgh.
"Negotiations between Unite and BAA - with the assistance of Acas - have been constructive and Unite is pleased to announce it is calling off the strike action at BAA's six airports," the union's national officers, Brian Boyd and Brendan Gold, said in a statement.
"Unite's negotiating committee will recommend a much improved offer from BAA. Details of the agreement will be made public once BAA staff have been advised of the improved offer."
