Alabama call in litigation solicitors to sue BP

Published on 16 Aug 2010 under category: legal

Alabama's attorney general is planning to launch a commercial litigation case against oil giant BP.
Troy King filed a lawsuit in the federal court in Montgomery accusing the company of damaging Alabama's economy through "negligent or wanton failure to adhere to recognised industry standards".
Another suit was filed against other company involved in the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, which occurred in the Gulf of Mexico in April this year following an explosion on a drilling rig.
BP has refused to comment on the litigation, which was launched against the wishes of Alabama's governor Bob Riley. The Republican wanted to reach an out-of-court settlement with the company.
According to the Associated Press, BP is currently facing at least 300 federal lawsuits filed by 12 US states.
Meanwhile, efforts are continuing to clean up the coastline following the spill, with BP bringing in a Sand Shark machine to remove oil particles from the sand on Alabama's beaches.
